Switching from Klaviyo

Klaviyo migration: how to switch from Klaviyo

    Updated 14 October 2026

An honest guide to moving over: what carries across automatically, what you rebuild in an afternoon, and what your new invoice looks like. No one-click magic promised - none needed.

This guide is for moving off Klaviyo. If you are moving from Mailchimp to Klaviyo, Klaviyo's own help center covers that direction.

    The honest part

    What we don't promise.

There is no automated API sync that copies your Klaviyo account in one click. Migration here is CSV-based and takes an afternoon, typically. Your flow logic and templates are rebuilt, not imported; the ready-made workflows and the AI builder make that the fast part. And on the Scale plan and up, we do the migration with you.

    What carries over
    CSV import
    ✓ Subscribers & profiles automatic
✓ Tags & custom fields automatic
    ✓ Unsubscribed status automatic
! Flows & templates rebuilt - an afternoon
    Step by step

    Klaviyo migration checklist

Ten steps, in the order that avoids surprises. The data and the core flows take an afternoon; the warm-up at the end takes a couple of weeks of ordinary sending. The order matters because Klaviyo's CSV carries profiles and consent but not event history: data first, store connection second, flows third, warm-up last.

    1. Count what you pay for todayIn Klaviyo, check your active profile count: the people who can receive email. Unsubscribed and suppressed profiles are not billed. This is the number to compare with our plans. If you plan to clean the list, suppress long-inactive profiles before you export so you only move people you can still email.
    2. Export profiles, lists and segments to CSVIn Klaviyo, export your lists and segments to CSV. Profiles, properties, tags and subscription status all come along in the file. Keep the consent status columns; the next section has the exact clicks.
    3. Import into MailingPlatformOur streaming importer handles 100,000+ row files without breaking a sweat. Map columns once - tags, custom fields and status carry over, so unsubscribed contacts stay unsubscribed.
    4. Connect your storeInstall the Shopify or WooCommerce app so orders, checkouts and product views start streaming in from the first minute. The store connection is what gives abandoned cart, back in stock and post purchase flows something to trigger on.
    5. Set up sendingDelivery runs through your own Amazon SES account. Verify your sending domain with guided DNS setup - SPF, DKIM and DMARC checked live. Usually done in under an hour.
    6. Rebuild flowsAbandoned cart, welcome, back in stock and post purchase ship as ready-made workflows. Turn them on and adjust the copy. Flow logic is rebuilt, not imported.
    7. Recreate templatesDescribe your Klaviyo template to the AI builder and iterate until it matches - your brand profile applies colors and logo automatically.
    8. Discount codesSet up unique codes per recipient; they are created directly in your Shopify or WooCommerce store, on every plan, at send time. Check that any codes already promised in old Klaviyo emails still work in the store.
    9. Warm upStart with your most engaged segment for the first sends, then widen over a couple of weeks. Watch bounce and complaint rates in the first week; if they stay low, grow the audience with each send. Keep Klaviyo running in parallel until your flows are live, then pause the Klaviyo flows so customers do not get two emails.
    10. Cancel or downgrade KlaviyoOnce nothing sends from it, close the account or drop to the free plan. Download any reports you want to keep first; campaign history does not move. Keep your CSV export as a record.

On Scale and up, we do the migration with you.

    The pricing difference

Pay for your audience. Not for sending to it.

Klaviyo prices by active profiles, and each tier includes a send limit of 10 times its profile maximum. Here, every plan has every feature - AI builder, automations, integrations - and sends are unlimited. You pay for audience size, full stop. Put your subscriber count into the calculator and see the yearly difference, or read the tier-by-tier breakdown in Klaviyo vs Mailchimp pricing: what a store actually pays. Shopify store owners should also read Klaviyo pricing for Shopify stores: it explains why checkout emails count as billable profiles and what the February 2025 billing rules changed.

    Nothing lost in the move

The store data comes back fast.

Behavioural history is the one thing a CSV can't carry - but it rebuilds itself. Connect your Shopify or WooCommerce store and orders, checkouts and product views start streaming in immediately. Within weeks your segments are as sharp as they were, running on live data instead of snapshots.

    • Store events stream in from the moment you connect
    • Revenue attribution per campaign and automation from day one
    • Behavioural segments with live counts as data accrues

    Imported 110,996 active
    Preserved 1,412 unsubscribed

    Fair questions about leaving.

No - automation logic cannot be imported between platforms. The flows that drive store revenue (abandoned cart, welcome, back in stock, post purchase, browse triggers) ship here as ready-made workflows, so rebuilding is mostly turning them on and adjusting the copy. Budget an afternoon.

Subscribers, custom fields, tags and subscription status, via Klaviyo CSV export and our streaming import - 100,000+ row files are fine. Unsubscribed contacts stay unsubscribed. Campaign history and behavioural data stay behind; store data rebuilds once Shopify or WooCommerce is connected.

It depends on your list size and how often you send. Klaviyo prices by active profiles with a send limit of 10 times your plan's profile maximum; here you pay a flat price by active subscribers, from €39 a month excl. VAT up to 3,000, with unlimited sends. At small lists Klaviyo can be cheaper. The full breakdown with sources is in Klaviyo vs Mailchimp pricing: what a store actually pays. If you are weighing Klaviyo against Shopify's own app instead, see Shopify Messaging vs Klaviyo.

You authenticate your own domain here (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) with guided setup, then warm the new sending path by starting with your most engaged segment. Aligned sending on your own domain typically performs at least as well as your previous setup within a couple of weeks.

For most stores an afternoon for the data and the core flows: export your profiles to CSV, import them, connect Shopify or WooCommerce and turn on the ready-made workflows. Domain authentication is usually done within an hour. Plan a couple of weeks of gradual sending to warm up.

In Klaviyo, go to Audience, then Lists & segments, open the list or segment and choose Export to CSV. To export everyone, create a segment of all profiles first. The file holds profile properties and consent status, but not event history or list membership.

Yes. MailingPlatform creates a unique discount code for each recipient directly in your Shopify or WooCommerce store, on every plan.

Briefly, yes. Keep Klaviyo running until your flows are live here, then pause the Klaviyo flows so nobody gets the same email twice, and cancel once nothing sends from it.
